Honeymoon FlyFishing trip into the back counrty

Taka and his wife were in Queenstown for their honeymoon and keen to take a helicopter out into the back country for some fly fishing.

We like to practice catch and release in our back country rivers, so the next day we went to a local lake and caught a couple of fish that we smoked for lunch on the side of a river.

Helicopters open up a whole new world when time is not on your side, and gives the opportunity to go to the back of beyond..

Having a river like this to yourselves for the day, priceless..

Winter of 2010, Exploration and Back country Rivers NZ

It all seems to come around pretty quickly, winter, summer, spring…

Photo seem to tell a good story of whats been going on around here lately.

Winter time means heliski time for me, i reckon its pretty cool to ski in the snow that will fuel the rivers we fish juring the summer.

Another winter has passed and another summer about to roll out. There is still plenty of snow in the high country which will keep the rivers in good flow for the early part of the summer. Even over the winter we managed to get out onto the west coast where some rivers are open all year round.

Here are some photos of the last few weeks of exploration as well as days with clients and also some winter action on the mountains surrounding the Wakatipu.

November 1st and our high country rivers are open, these are the places we love and are pretty excited about getting out back country and seeing what is going on out there!!!

As far as the season goes we have steady bookings and are already getting enquiry for next year during the World cup of Rugby.

Another opening day Brown, taken on a #16 paracute adams.

Opening day was pretty good, actually was better then pretty good. Peter is on his 3rd time out with a fly rod the difference is that he went home to Perth Western Australia and got casting tuition and practices on the back lawn.

He has fast tracked his way into a great caster and these are the results!! He will be back in december of this year and we are planning to go back country by helicopter. All i can say is that no fish will be safe!!

Peter Gomm was in Queenstown for about the third visit with his wife and as always makes the most of his time here. With plenty of snow on the mountains around Queenstown and only a coulpe of days in town. Snow shoeing in the morning and fishing in the afternoon was the call.

Peter Hitchman from Snowshoeing Queenstown and Guided Nature Walks Queenstown showed off what we call our back yard and got up close and personal with country that unless you were a skier or snowboarder would never imagine in your wildest dreams going to!!

From snow shoes and the mountain tops to a pair of waders and the river valley in a matter of hours is what is possible here in the Wakatipu.

Some people sit in offices and dream about this stuff all day long, we wake up in the morning and do it!! Living the dream!!!

We went for a search, Gordy Watson (TroutStalkers) and I found a stash of awesome water out there??. There were’nt many fish, but you know what they are BIG.

We know where they live, and if they happen to be home when we go calling and everything goes to plan the rewards could be great if you are a fisherman, not so much if you are the BIG FISH……….

If you have just started flyfishing or have had a life time of stalking and hunting trout, then there is nothing nicer then coming across a spring creek in the middle of a farm paddock that holds good fish. Presentation and selection of the fly is Paramount!! The results will be talked about for years and will always bring a smile to your face.
